PHSC Plc announces long-term sponsorship agreement with Katie Bradley, British National Champion in Taekwondo

Katie, aged 17, has trained in the martial art of Taekwondo since she was six, and has competed in the Olympic Sport Taekwondo since age seven.

In 2013, Katie retained her title as Junior British National Champion. She also competed in six International A-class competitions all over Europe, and medalled at five of them, becoming both Dutch and Belgian Champion in the -44kgs category.  Only last weekend, Katie became 2014 Luxembourg Open Champion in both Junior and Senior categories.

In September 2013 Katie represented Great Britain at the European Junior Championships in Portugal where she narrowly missed out on a European medal.  In December 2013 Katie was once again selected to represent Great Britain, this time at the 2014 WTF WORLD Junior Championships to be held in New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei in March 2014.

Maintaining training and competing internationally has high cost implications and, in this sport, athletes are largely self-funded. All GB-related training takes place at the National Olympic Taekwondo Academy in Manchester, a 600 mile round trip from Katie’s home in Plymouth, and often involving the additional cost of accommodation.

PHSC plc are proud to have become Katie’s primary sponsor, and will provide a level of support designed to ensure that she can realise her full potential.

In announcing this three-year sponsorship agreement, Stephen King, CEO of PHSC plc said: “I recently became aware of Katie’s achievements and how hard she has had to work to get to the top of her chosen sport. When I read about the financial challenges she faces, I felt that this could be something worthy of our support. Having met Katie and discussed her plans for the future, I was convinced that she has the will to succeed, and that she should be rewarded and encouraged in every way possible.  Although her network of family, friends and other supporters do a great job in fundraising on Katie’s behalf, it was clear to me that an athlete of this calibre should have the greater level of financial security that a formal sponsorship deal can bring.  It will be a pleasure to follow Katie in her career as she progresses in the sport, and to see her fulfil the promise she has clearly shown”.

Katie is delighted to have been offered a deal that will be worth around £10,000 over three years. She said “It’s really amazing to get this first sponsorship deal from PHSC plc!  It’s going to help so much with many of my expenses and this is a big relief for me because I know my dad struggles with the costs. I can't thank Stephen enough for offering me this great support package.

Now I can concentrate on my Taekwondo and getting ready for the Worlds so I can do the very best I can on the day - 24th March!  I would really love to bring home a medal for GBR but it would also be for my club, Plymouth and everyone else who has helped and supported me, including my new sponsor Stephen.

I hope this is just a stepping stone towards getting all the financial help that I need to train and compete at GB and International level for the next few years.”
